What is it with Hawaii? A long time ago, I read Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More. It is simple. Keep saying “I love you.” “I’m sorry.” “Please forgive me.” “Thank you.” It will change your life. I wrote about it here: Four simple phrases that will improve your life.
The Shaman’s Mind: Huna Wisdom to Change Your Life
And now “The Shaman’s Mind: Huna Wisdom to Change Your Life” by Jonathan Hammond. A really deep book on curing the current disease of the human soul. Conflict at a global scale, selfishness, and disconnection from nature. A book about awakening the inner shaman. It got me thinking about the shaman-CEO as a concept. Focusing on love and alignment with spirit and nature.
To beat superintelligence, you need to become superconscious
The inner and experiential knowing, access the intelligences of the Universe, and access to the power within. Self-awareness, forgiveness, agency, and managing your perception. Because the world is what you think it is. What exists within you is mirrored back to you by the outside world, which means your fingerprints are on absolutely everything you experience. You are responsible.
Ancient wisdom
Going back to ancient wisdom, not dissimilar to Buddhist meditation, Qi Gong, or yoga, among many other spiritual practices finding their way to the West. The need to develop as a human being, and as you grow, subtle shifts in your questions will lead to further revelations of deeper dimensionalities embedded in the knowledge. Basically, following your gut (the ancient Hawaiians believed that the intellect and the emotions were essentially one). Nothing good ever happens from not being in your body. Our bodies are where our emotions and our feelings reside, and if we are disconnected from them, then we separate from our deepest truth.
Effortless living
The more you listen to it, the more you are led toward “flow”—the effortless living that comes from being in our authentic truth. That truth is that we are all connected (the Quantum Inseparability Principle; every atom affects every other atom, everywhere), and that we are all God. That realisation of that truth, combined with the techniques, I believe, will give you a competitive advantage.
Language
Applying techniques such as the use of language. The awareness of meaning and nuance, way beyond pointing at the moon and calling it “moon”. The dimensionality and emotional context of language, which becomes particularly relevant in the world of AI. Apparently, Hawaiian is a vibratory, energetic language, capable of more closely approximating the felt experience of reality—a myriad of changing potentialities and limitless prospects in every moment. The Hawaiian language has over two hundred words for “wind. Basically, the frequency of what you speak and think.
Now
Have the ability to live in the now. Quantum leadership, if you will. Embracing hardship as a teacher and as a gift to the soul. Applying joyful intention. Allowing magic. Because magic is nothing more than conscious manifestation; the utilisation of the natural forces of thought, emotion, energy, and spirit to bring about change. Living your best and most natural life. Being completely yourself.
Nature
Maintain a deep conversation with the dynamism of Nature and the infinitude of the cosmos. Developing a psychological framework that allows you to see reality as a matrix of interconnectivity, one that is more energetic than it is material. That immediacy with the metaphysical opens you to messages from the universe and gives the creative power to manifest.
No doubt, fear or shame
Rid yourselves of all doubt, fear, and shame surrounding our desires, and we cultivate hearts and minds that are in kinship and agreement with what we want. This is why we must legitimize and befriend our wanting and our yearning, because in doing so we align with receiving, and we send out a powerful signal to the universe that contains our innermost essence. What you yearn for is, in fact, a deep part of who you are.
Congruence
Learn to align your thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes into energetic congruence (sympathetic vibration) with what you want to create, and heal and let go of anything out of alignment. Merging our thoughts with the divine requires the radical act of falling madly in love with ourselves, and holding ourselves in the same reverence that we would hold the gods.
You
You are the primary cause of the creative force of your live, and the spiritual intelligences of the universe follow your lead. You hold directive power in how they relate to us because the way we organise our thoughts, beliefs, and intentions tells them how best to show up for us and what we are willing to receive.
Shamans
Shamans consciously create effectively because they tend and harvest their personal power, they discipline and fine-tune their thinking, and they never forget that infinite potential exists absolutely everywhere. Your shaman’s mind will grow exponentially when you organise your life around how you intend to influence and serve the world, and then insist that every choice and action that you take contributes to this intention. If you take responsibility for your causative involvement in the creation of your world, the more empowered you will become, and the more choices will be made available to you. The shaman’s mind swims in an ocean of universal connection where everything is available, anything is possible, and connection is everywhere. It’s just a matter of finding it, and saying yes.
Everything is created with your thoughts and beliefs
They are inextricably connected to every solution for it in the entire universe. They can create something different by focusing on something different. They can do so right now in the present moment. They can choose the most loving solution. They have infinite power within themselves to create to do so. They can try something else if what they attempt doesn’t work. These are, of course, simply restatements of the Seven Principles of Huna.
The seven principles of Huna
Here they are, all seven. Read them as a CEO:
- Ike – The world is what you think it is. Your beliefs shape your experience, and your experience shapes the world. Mixed thinking gets mixed results. So does mixed strategy.
- Kala – There are no limits. Everything is connected. No real boundaries between you and others. Your wellbeing affects the wellbeing of everything else. Including your organisation.
- Makia – Energy flows where attention goes. What you focus on, grows. Energy is neutral. It moves towards whatever you feed it. And the converse: attention flows where energy goes.
- Manawa – Now is the moment of power. The future is not yet born. It is embryonic potential, entirely dependent on what you do now.
- Aloha – To love is to be happy with. The depth of your love correlates with the depth of your happiness. Love as a management tool. Why not?
- Mana – All power comes from within. Nothing outside of you is more powerful than you. Not the market, not the competition, not the board.
- Pono – Effectiveness is the measure of truth. There is no right way. Only what works.
Agency
The key message of the book that you always get to choose. Because we are each an individual representation of the entire cosmos, we must take 100% responsibility for our indivisibility. The only place where you can make these changes is in the present moment. You decide that this is what now is for you; then that is what now becomes. In every moment, we can choose to start over. All power comes from within, and each of us has all of it. Take 100% responsibility for yourselves to discover and align with your own unique truth, and develop the autonomy to recognise what isn’t true for you. Because there are no limits, you can know that anything is possible, if you can figure out how to do it.
- Because energy flows where attention goes, you can adjust, change, or intensify your focus. (Makia)
- Because now is the moment of power, you access your power by making yourself fully present in the moment. (Manawa)
- Because love is to be happy with, you can prioritise happiness and increase love’s presence in your actions and your thoughts. (Aloha)
- Because all power comes from within, you can rely on the infinite power inside of you. (Mana)
- Because effectiveness is the measure of truth, you can increase your flexibility and try something else until a solution appears. (Pono)
Exercises
The book suggests some exercises:
- Love yourself
- Map your beliefs. Reframe your negative beliefs
- List 75 things you want.
- Do breathing exercises
- Visualise
- Reframe the past.
- Watch your thoughts
- Consciously bless people, things and situations
- Meditate
- Sense your energy field
- Keep saying “I love you.” “I’m sorry.” “Please forgive me.” “Thank you.”
- Pay attention to your dreams
Why not?
Why be mediocre? Why not strive to reach the highest summit? Why not value ourselves? Why not be the best you can be? Why not be truly productive? Why not increase love and happiness? Why not leave no stone unturned until you find what uniquely and rightly brings each of us to equanimity and balance?
The three selves
The book then shifts into something entirely different. The three selves. Ku, Lono and Kane.
Ku: the unconscious. It never sleeps. It walks, breathes, remembers. It communicates through feelings. Without guidance, it will do the same thing over and over again. Genetic memory. Your cultural DNA. Your organisational wisdom. Your habits, your legacy, “the way we do things around here.” The things you watch out for.
Lono: the conscious mind. The inner CEO. It can create its own rules, imagine reality however it pleases and override obstacles with creative solutions. Lo means “to achieve,” ono means “desires.” That is leadership.
Kane: the higher self. Its primary tool is inspiration. Its primary motivation is harmony. That is purpose.
As an organisation
Lono has an intention and gives it consistent focus until Ku memorises it as a pattern. Then Kane manifests it. Potential becomes actualised power through focus. That is culture change in one paragraph. Leadership sets the intention. Relentless repetition embeds it in the organisation’s unconscious. And then, one day, it just happens.
You
On a personal level, learn to use your conscious mind as the guiding spirit. Your unconsciousness is the most “permanent” part of you. You can teach it to memorise any reality your conscious mind feeds it. Your higher self, the spiritual self, and superconscious mind, is the aspect of us that has direct access to God, and it best acts on your behalf when Ku and Lono become more lovingly aligned.
Your own Hawaii
Inspiration, harmony, wonderment. You own Hawaii. Give yourself your own paradise. The Shaman’s Mind shows you that there is absolutely no limit to what you can create, or who you can become. What you think changes the world; you have infinite possibilities available to you; the energy of the universe responds to what you focus on; being in the moment aligns you with power; love and happiness can guide you in everything that you do; all the power in the entire universe is already within you; and when things don’t go your way, no big deal, you can just try something else.
Would you not like to be a shaman CEO?
