I help organisations become future-fit. #Mindcandy scenario prompts are designed to stretch your imagination, sharpen situational awareness, and spark opportunity thinking. Find out more here.
Today’s scenario prompt: biology x organisational structure
Every day, the boundary between biology and technology gets thinner: organoids as computers, brain–computer interfaces, skin-like sensors, living biosensors. At the same time, most organisations are still designed like 19th-century machines. What if instead you designed your company like a living organism?
Small, fractal units that can sense, decide and act. Org “tissues” that self-repair. A nervous system that can route new signals (AI, robotics, immersive tech, biotech) without breaking. The overlap between biology and organisational structure is where future-fit companies will emerge. The question is whether your structure can metabolise the onslaught of new technologies, or whether those technologies will metabolise you.
The CEO question
If your organisation had to function like a living, fractal organism rather than a rigid hierarchy, what would you change first on Monday morning?

The Most Effective Organizations Are Fractal
The best ideas from the companies that live in the creative canon were generated when those companies exhibited fractality. When they remembered their “why” and eschewed bureaucracy, algorithms, reporting, bell curves, ROI and all other tyrannical measures.
When they behaved as if they were small.

After Neuralink, Max Hodak is building something even wilder
A computer chip smaller than a grain of rice that’s implanted directly in the retina. Combined with camera-equipped glasses and (for the time being) a two-pound battery, the tech restores vision to people with advanced macular degeneration

Scientists Beam Information Straight Into Mouse Brains

Connecting electronics to living brains sounds like science fiction. Researchers built a wireless device that sends information directly to the brain using patterns of light. No wires. No surgery cutting into brain tissue. Just light shining through the skull.
Skin-like device makes texting without screens possible, turns taps into readable messages
Human skin can sense subtle patterns of pressure, timing, and movement, but most digital devices only register simple taps and swipes. This difference has led researchers to explore new touch-based technologies.

How Experts See The Metaverse Intersecting With Emerging Tech
As the Metaverse evolves beyond its early hype cycle, its real potential is becoming easier to see. Instead of standing alone, it’s increasingly tied to bigger shifts across tech, including advances in AI, digital twin modeling and edge computing.
