The Xmas lights are back on in Malaga

Yesterday, I came across a post stating that change management is out and change activation is in. Could you also say that innovation is out and that future fitness is in?

Risk

A #bookin2days client is writing a book about risk. The book he recommended is “Risk: A User’s Guide” by General Stanley McChrystal. The key message of the book is that risk is not about risk. It is about your ability to respond. He calls it the risk immune system, but you could call it resilience, future fitness, adaptability or . It is all about being prepared/fit.

Situational awareness, the muscle of the future

I really do not care what you call it, but there is no question that situational awareness is a key aspect. In a world of introspective AI, bio-printing organoids and bio-integrated brain implants at the size of a grain of salt, success depends on how well you can sense, interpret, and respond. I used the example of paint drones at a recent Skillnet conference. As a painter, you now have a choice to apply drones to your work (that is before we start talking about nano-paint). My point is that if you are unaware, you do not have the choice. That is why I invented the future fitness programme. I used to call it future proofing, but I realised that is nonsense. Too much VUCA, RUPT, BANI and TUNA. For that reason, it might be a good idea to give me a call if you are starting to plan for 2026. Xmas is around the corner (the Xmas lights are back on in Malaga).

Strategic narrative

And while you are thinking about your plans for 2026, also consider the narrative. Apply story thinking. A book I would highly recommend is “Primal intelligence“. Not only as a technique (because everything is story telling), but also as an antidote to the AI onslaught. You are the upgrade. Random divergent thinking goes beyond logic and data. The author also calls it synapse thinking.

Special forces

Both “Risk, a user´s guide” and “Primal Intelligence” use special forces as an example. Special forces apply collective leadership.  Combine that with situational awareness and a compelling strategic narrative, and your organisation becomes fit for any future. But, and this is key, you can’t wait for January’s resolutions. You need to start training now. The mental gym is open. Start building your future muscle now.

You can book your first future fitness session here. As in any gym, the first one is free.
