Decentralised leadership increases adaptation velocity.

Most organisations do not have an information problem. They have a decision and movement problem. The signals are there. Employees can see what is changing. Customers are telling you what is not working. AI is increasing the speed at which organisations can analyse, learn, and recommend.

But none of that matters if decisions still have to climb the hierarchy before anything changes. Every unnecessary approval layer adds latency. Adaptation velocity is the ability to convert learning into coordinated, economically meaningful change at a speed appropriate to the evidence, stakes, and reversibility of the decision.

That means decentralised leadership is not primarily a cultural idea. It is an operating advantage. Move decision-making authority closer to where the information, expertise, and consequences sit, and you shorten the distance between signal, decision, and action.
