I use the #Mindcandy as a strategic sensing engine to help leadership teams identify the signals they are missing, the assumptions they are protecting, and the moves they need to make before disruption becomes visible on the P&L. It fuels the strategic conversation about what is next.
When science fiction becomes operating reality
Brain waves translated into words, synthetic cells built from scratch, cyborg cockroaches with diving suits, alien intelligence as a serious strategic thought experiment, and a 25-year-old Spielberg film suddenly looking less like cinema and more like early warning. It is tempting to treat this as science fiction. The real signal is category collapse.
- A brain is no longer only a biological organ. It is becoming a data interface.
- A cell is no longer only something nature produces. It is becoming an engineering platform.
- An insect is no longer only an animal. It can become a low-energy search-and-rescue system.
- A science-fiction film is no longer only entertainment. It can become a scenario-planning tool.
- Alien intelligence is no longer only a fringe imagination exercise. It is a useful mirror for thinking about how limited human intelligence may actually be.
Most organisations still make decisions using old categories: human or machine, natural or artificial, living or engineered, real or synthetic, fact or story, science or fiction. The future will arrive as hybrids, edge cases, anomalies and uncomfortable combinations that do not fit the existing org chart, risk register, regulatory framework or business model.

The leadership question
Which of your current strategic assumptions depends on old boundaries staying intact?
Put “science fiction becoming science fact” on the agenda of your next leadership meeting as a standing item, not a special one, and ask which of your current five-year assumptions would break first.
